Below is a list of some of the electrical test equipment types commonly used today, and each has a unique purpose. Ammeter is an instrument that measures the amperage rather than voltage. This equipment has two loads, which is connected on various points in circuit. Many ammeters measure amperage from the very lowest (milliamp) to nearly 10 amps.
Voltmeter similar to ammeter, voltmeter measure the amount of voltage among two different points.
While there are analog voltmeters, the automated or digital ones are more popular as it is more inexpensive while still providing more functionality. Voltmeters have two point leads that should be touched to split points. Reliable voltmeter is capable of measuring voltages from millivolts to hundreds of volt.
Further, voltmeter has the ability to show current polarity. Multimeter a multimeter measures different electrical properties such as current, AC/DC voltage and resistance. This devices is a combination of an ammeter, a voltmeter and an ohmmeter. Because of this features, one can utilize it on a wide range of electrical devices and appliance such as batteries, switches, motors, power source and components to diagnose faults and malfunctions and trace up the cause.
